Pre-monsoon cleaning

Kuttampuzha Grama Panchayat has successfully completed the first phase of pre-monsoon cleaning activities. The first phase of extensive pre-monsoon cleaning activities has been completed in all 17 wards of Kuttampuzha Grama Panchayat with the aim of preventing epidemics ahead of the Eidavapathi. The cleaning campaign was organized throughout the panchayat with public participation and proper planning. On May 15, 2026, at a function held at the Kuttampuzha Grama Panchayat Town Ward, Grama Panchayat President Mrs. Mary Kuriakose officially inaugurated the cleaning activities. In her inaugural speech, the President reminded that extreme caution should be maintained against infectious diseases such as dengue fever and leptospirosis that may occur during the monsoon and that the active participation of the public should be ensured for this.

 

Ward-level activities and leadership

Energetic activities were carried out simultaneously in all 17 wards of the panchayat. The following sections led the cleaning activities at the ward levels.

 

Ward Members: Coordinated the cleaning activities in their respective wards and prepared the people.

 

Health workers & ASHA workers: Led door-to-door awareness and source destruction activities (Dry Day observance).

 

Harithakarma Sena members: Collected inorganic waste and separated recyclables properly.

 

Volunteers: Clubs, Kudumbashree workers and the general public actively participated in the cleaning campaign.

 

Key Activities and Findings

Special cleaning activities were carried out in 15 Scheduled Tribe upazilas spread across 6 wards of the Grama Panchayat namely Idamalayar, Kallelimedu, Manikandanchal, Thalipara, Mamalakandam and Pinavoorkudi. Along with cleaning, the following activities were also ensured in these areas.

 

Medical Camps: Special medical camps were organized in all upazilas.

 

Awareness: Health awareness classes against infectious diseases were conducted.

 

Source destruction and public instructions Extensive source destruction activities were carried out to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. The following strict instructions were given to the public in this regard.

 

It is mandatory to observe a 'dry day' once a week in homes and institutions.

 

Drain stagnant water in fields and terraces.

 

Remove garbage, plastic waste and other objects that are likely to stagnate.

 

Protection of drinking water sources Chlorination activities were carried out in public and private wells and other drinking water sources within the gram panchayat limits to prevent the spread of pollution-related diseases.

 

Roadside cleaning and distribution of preventive medicines

 

The forests on the roadsides were cleared to ensure ease of travel and cleanliness.

 

As part of the prevention of Leptospirosis, Doxycycline tablets were distributed to sanitation workers and job-guaranteed workers as per the strict instructions of health workers.

 

Legal Action

In the inspection conducted by the Panchayat authorities as part of the cleaning activities, notices were issued to 8 establishments that were found to have failed to comply with hygiene standards. The inspections will continue in the coming days.
